How much does an AI agent cost to build in India?

The short answer
An AI agent is software that does a daily job for you: it reads messages or documents, decides the next step, and updates your CRM, WhatsApp or sheets. At MarketRun every one starts with a two-week sprint from ₹50,000 that ends in a fixed quote. A focused one that works with one or two of your tools usually starts from ₹5 lakh. Bigger ones across several systems are quoted after the sprint. AI usage and hosting are separate running costs.
What we mean by an AI agent
AI that takes a task off your team, not just answers a question. For example: it reads new WhatsApp enquiries, picks out the serious ones, adds them to your CRM and drafts a reply for a person to send. If you only need customers answered from replies you have approved, that is an AI receptionist, and it costs less to start.

What pushes the price up
- The number of tools it must read from and act in: CRM, billing, WhatsApp, email, your own systems. Each one needs access, testing and handling for when things go wrong.
- How much it may do on its own. Approval steps, a record of every action and a way to undo add work, and they are worth it.
- Messy inputs: scanned documents, handwritten notes, voice, or several languages.
- How accurate it has to be, and proving it. A set of real test cases takes time to build and keep up to date.
- Security and compliance reviews, or AI models that must run on your own servers.
What keeps it down
- Starting with one job and one result you can measure, such as hours saved a week.
- Keeping a person on the approval for anything a customer sees, so it does not need to be perfect on day one.
- Using the tools you already have instead of rebuilding them.
Running costs after launch
On top of the build, an agent has monthly costs: AI usage (charged by the AI provider for each request), hosting, and any paid services it uses. WhatsApp messages are charged by Meta: in India a reminder or order update (a utility message) costs ₹0.115 under Meta's rate card effective 1 October 2026. We estimate these before the build and track the cost of each task once it is live.
Does a small business need an AI agent?
Most do not start there. A small business usually gets more from auto replies, follow-up reminders or an AI receptionist first. An agent makes sense when someone copies information between tools every day, or leads and orders wait because nobody has time, and the job has clear steps.
How to get a real number
Use the cost estimator for a rough starting point, then ask for a quote. If an agent is the right answer, the sprint ends in a fixed quote. If something simpler will do, we will say so.

Is an AI agent the same as a chatbot?
No. A chatbot answers questions. An agent does a job in your tools, such as updating your CRM or preparing a document, with a person approving anything a customer sees.
