The real risk of custom, and how to avoid it
One reply in an Indian startup forum put it bluntly: 'You will get stuck longer term with custom software.' It is a fair warning. The usual way it happens is that the person who built it disappears and nobody else can change the code. Protect yourself: own the code and the accounts, insist on documentation, choose a common, well-supported technology, and test the software on your own data before you pay.
